Welcome to my website! My name is Aaron Finley. I recently received my PhD in Philosophy from UC San Diego. I am currently working as a lecturer at the University of San Diego. My interests include a wide range of topics within contemporary moral and political philosophy.

My current research focuses primarily on political obligation which aims to explain why we have a duty to obey the law. I engage with philosophical anarchists, who argue that we have no such obligations, by defending an approach to political obligation that combines multiple principles — an underexplored area of the literature. I also have active projects related to duties to help the distant needy, borders and migration, and climate justice.

In my free time I enjoy playing the piano, reading, and hiking. I also like to spend time with friends and host board game nights (at least when there is no pandemic!).
